The winter Forest’s father turned 70, Brooklyn-based filmmaker, photographer and friend Forest Woodward found a poem his father had written in 1986, the year Woodward was born. It was called "The Important Places."I asked him one day when he was sitting at the computer, ‘Hey, if I can get an extra spot on this Grand Canyon trip next winter would you want to come with me?'" says Forest, now 28 years old. "I half expected him to say no, but with the utmost conviction, he simply said 'Yes.'" Visit that old friend and this time together.

Honolua Blomfield’s Hawaiian roots run deep. She started surfing when she was two she claims and now 18 years later she shines as the Women’s World Champion longboard supported by O'Neill. We got in touch via Instagram and asked me if I could take lifestyle shots of her and hang out while being in Ericeira. Surfing wasn’t really an option as the waves were actually bigger than two-story buildings while Nazaré was firing further up north. We did get to see some amazing weaves rolling in and the sun. Hono is so easy and fun to work with, a lovely person and amazing surfer.

054 | Fight for flight.
Bruce Lee moves in the evening sun. Having the pro’s in town put things in perspective. They make waves I thought were not worth riding look like marvels and drops that I thought were unmakeable they make me think twice. Living this year in Ericeira, Portugal, maybe in the most beautiful coastal town and full of surf, it is famous for her waves and in October 2011 they called it ‘a World Surfing Reserve when this was declared by the international organization Save the Waves Coalition. It was only the 2nd Reserve to be distinguished worldwide and remains the only one in Europe until today. Good waves attract great surfers and when they are around its beautiful to capture their dance.

When every I find my self in Amsterdam I ‘actually’ always pay a visit to Mendo bookstore in the capital of the Netherlands. We share a passion for visual curiosity and weather it is in their shop or online in their 'virtual shop' my mind always feeds on all the beauty and inspiration in the books they have on display. A candy store for book aficionados, great ever changing collection of coffee table books for those who appreciate it.
”Today, people are experiencing an information overload. Having an opinion, and creating a personal identity isn’t actually all that easy anymore. Where bookstores used to be a reliable reference, they are now struggling to cope with the digital era, often finding themselves trapped in trying to offer “it all”. With their inability to make choices, they lose their role as a landmark for personal identification and inspiration. This calls for curatorship and tangibility.” Mendo

Four days of running to capture all the new styles of the 2019 Brooks Running Fall / Winter collection. Hugo Happel the directer picked Portugal as the location which is very convenient living in Ericeira, Portugal. A home game for me and Amy, lovely! The challenge was to capture the running shoes and apparel collection in totally different environments, from steep cliffs to clean architecture and ideal coastal towns. Brooks Running gaves us four days to shoot it with one travel day in between to changes locations between Lisbon and the beautiful island of flowers Madeira.Lots of running so fitness was key, for the crew and mostly for the run models, during a visit to the locations to scout the locations Hugo was ‘test running’ every potential locations, after the first day we decided that we had to take it a little easier as he already had ran 30km. During the shoot days the models ran 15km in average, short sprints and that for 4 days in combination while looking good. Though job and happy to be behing the camera shooting my new Canon 1D mark2, lovely.

A film about the turbulent relationship between an Icelandic surfer and the North Atlantic wind. The reality of growing up a surfer in Iceland is different from anywhere else in the world. It’s a harsh place. There are no surf shops, guidebooks or webcams. But being so far removed from the hustle and bustle of the known surf world hardens Iceland’s surfers to confront the issue they all must face: the North Atlantic wind. Presented by 66°North featuring Heidar Logi.
050 | Strolling with Joolz around the world.
#work
I’ve been working with Joolz for a couple of years now which entails the most thoughtful and comfortable strollers you will ever see. It also entails patience, lots of it with the children who claim eighter more attention or they don’t want any attention from the stranger with the camera, me. Whatever the case is they always get tired and never do what you hoop them to do. Joolz rang me up told me about the new campaign and locations, the told me that we were going a long adventure documenting real families in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, the United States of America, Belgium and Spain. Adventure, yes, please! And just like that a couple of weeks later we took off with a small crew of three meeting them all somewhere on our beautiful globe. I only packed my hand luggage which is a backpack from F-stop containing my Canon 1Dm2, two lenses, laptop, hard drives for backup’s, headphones, card reader, a book of Captain Cook’s 3 voyages and bits and pieces of clothing. The thing I love the most about this project is that we got to hang out with an actual family which hasn’t always been the case and got to hang and took us to there favorite places and the city they know. Strolling with the baby stroller and a newborn usually a couple of months old which means a fresh mum. Other times one or two more kids usually craving for what every they demand. The scene in a nutshell; kids, parents, unfamiliar city, traffic, light situation and constantly changing, other humans around. It is a fun mission, getting the shots. So, fun to shoot and document with of course focus on the new strollers. Being patient is key and connect with the little ones but don't forget the parents and hats off for mothers.

Even though it is their first issue, they don't like to call this their first issue since Co11ectif is the coming together of the three already established magazines SWELL magazine, SCSMAG, and WOOD. In this semi-first issue, I, Denni van Huis is featured with an interview and some of his lifestyle photography, including five full-page spreads. Collectif is a revelation you can enjoy on paper every 3 months. If you love riding a board and the cultures around it, then your money is safe with them!
048 | Ace and the desert Dog.
#Inspiration
Ace Kvale turned 60 last fall, and to celebrate, he planned a 60-day, off-trail backpacking trip around Utah's Canyon Country, leaving from his front door. He had a dozen friends join him for different sections of the trip, and one friend who joined him for the whole thing: his blue heeler, 10-year-old Genghis Khan. They covered more than 400 miles on their journey, and Ace wore one pair of shoes for the entire trip: Vasque Inhalers. Filmmakers Forest Woodward and Brendan Leonard captured the trip, and Genghis and Ace's special relationship, in the short film "Ace and the Desert Dog." Video for Vasque Footwear.
047 | Adventure shoot in the Alps.
#work
We had selected two adventurous models with experience and two models without to join the Perry fall/winter shoot. With two van’s loaded up with the crew, food and the upcoming winter collection we took off and drove to Austria, an eleven-hour drive through mainly Germany. Perry sells a lot of different brands, and because of this, they want to create their own content to combine brands in one shot and work on their own identity and feel. Fair enough, this is why we were on our way into the Alps. Location scouting is key, after we'd arrived and dropped off our stuff we drove around for a one and a half-day in the area to find different locations for the right setting, the challenge is that Perry sells brands like Nike and Puma where you need often locations where we can train, sport, run with usually clean walls that match the brand's Identity. During the same shoot, we often shoot lifestyle fashion which requires ofter settings and we get to go up the mountains and for snow on the slopes. I know, so many different settings and it isn't always easy to find a location where you can find it all. Parking lots and the area around ski lifts are good for clean lines when being in cute Austrian mountain villages, that where you find more clean spaces and lines, the forest obvious provides for adventure kind of clothing, somewhere on the mountain usually on the south side to meet the sun. Snow is another to solve when its winter it's easy, it is October now which means fingers crossed going up the slopes and pray for a little stubborn patch of snow on the North wall to work with. We have a crew that is so fun to work with which is great during these long days and helpful when you have to shoot at least 35 styles a day in different disciplines, a lot but once you’re on a roll its all good!
Crew: Denni van Huis, Jasper de Kloet, CJ Laros, Marielle van der Munt, Edwin Goudens v/d Handel

This is a beautiful documentary for the children of Australia by Malcolm Douglas, an Australian wildlife documentary filmmaker, and crocodile hunter. Douglas started in the 1960s as a professional crocodile hunter and farmer but later dedicated himself to their preservation. Across the top was filmed in 1964, back then Malcolm was 23 and started this six-month trip around Australia with his mates. Amazing rare footages of the land of down under.
045 | Faroe Islands with Nomad.
If you love dark and stormy you gotta go. North of Scotland and just south of Iceland you find a group of islands called the Faroe Islands ‘owned’ by the Danish but if you ask me it is a world on its own. Famous for their stubbornness on whaling habits, besides there is why more to these 17 islands floating in the middle of nowhere. It’s simply magical, barren lands, no trees around and so much space. Things have been the way as they’ve always have been when you look at photos and listen to the sounds while we were getting ourselves lost in the surroundings we met a not so happy man with his shepherd dogs. We happen to run over his land, not cool. The words of warnings quickly grew into a good chat and he told me that he is the 16th generation owning the valley and living on it. Things haven't changed much and that's where we came to shoot for Nomad. Martijn Andriessen was in charge of the photography and Hugo Happel and I were the ‘models’. Not bringing a camera wasn’t an option for me. Below some images of our trip and this amazing place.

A new collection for our brand Alfredo Gonzales means fresh socks. All excited we made our way to London Town to shoot the new campaign. Styling Queen Nancy dragged a couple of bags full of styling essentials along to create the power of styling on the spot. There wasn't much of a plan besides browsing the streets, cause England can get wet Dennis Ebeli came up with the idea to get umbrellas made with the same pattern all the new socks.\
