Ace Kvale turned 60 last fall, and to celebrate, he planned a 60-day, off-trail backpacking trip around Utah's Canyon Country, leaving from his front door. He had a dozen friends join him for different sections of the trip, and one friend who joined him for the whole thing: his blue heeler, 10-year-old Genghis Khan. They covered more than 400 miles on their journey, and Ace wore one pair of shoes for the entire trip: Vasque Inhalers. Filmmakers Forest Woodward and Brendan Leonard captured the trip, and Genghis and Ace's special relationship, in the short film "Ace and the Desert Dog." Video for Vasque Footwear.

This is a beautiful documentary for the children of Australia by Malcolm Douglas, an Australian wildlife documentary filmmaker, and crocodile hunter. Douglas started in the 1960s as a professional crocodile hunter and farmer but later dedicated himself to their preservation. Across the top was filmed in 1964, back then Malcolm was 23 and started this six-month trip around Australia with his mates. Amazing rare footages of the land of down under.

A couple of years ago Dane Reynolds tucked his left knee while doing an air in Mexico. We’d never seen a surfer do it like that. And I remember Curren Caples — who was probably 15 at the time — was one of the first people to say that it was one of the first airs in a long time that a skater would appreciate. Since then, surfing and skating have begun to intertwine here and there, with at least a layer of appreciation exposed. Curren is one of this generation most stylish hybrids to emerge from this old romance. More professionally known as a skateboarder, Curren has a distinctly poetic and tweaked style in transition and has developed his street skating in recent years as seen in his Flip 3 part. He surfs extremely well and it’s fascinating to watch the different approaches he brings to each. An ode to Nathan Fletcher’s ability in surfing and skating, using them to influence the other. Whatyouth.

Creed McTaggart’s a student of Australian surf culture, and, as any keen student knows, if you really want an authentic experience, then you’ve got to hit the road. After finally getting his licence, Creed picked a Toyota Land Cruiser from the classifieds of the local newspaper, scooped up brother in arms Beau Foster, filmmaker Toby Cregan and photographer Duncan Macfarlane, and hit the red dust east in search of surf and the Australian dream. The loose plan was to drive from Creed’s family home in Margaret River, to his adopted habitat in Byron Bay. Whether the boys realised quite how far this was (5,000km in a straight line) is at this stage unknown. Adventure.
040 | My old man.

And for his son, Jackson, Dorian is passing on the same appreciation for the wild that comes with an endless spirit of outdoor exploration. See the entire My Old Man series here.
039 | Deus 9ft and single.
So you missed the four-day party bender that was the Deus 9ft & Single presented by SWELL. From bodysurfing contests, to shaping forums, to single-fin shootouts and everything in between, it was a fine way to spend an extended weekend. Whether the waves come to the table at these kind of events can mean the difference between an exciting performance or a drinking marathon, and in this case it was a mixture of the two. Photos by Ben Osborne and Rick Snowden for Deus.

Wherever you are in the world, on whatever day at some point the sun also rises. Narrated by Burgs a spiritual teacher, connecting concentration and mindfulness. I’ve spent time in meditation with Rin Poche (one of Burgs principle teachers) and through daily conscious living I’m trying to connect with what Burgs talks about here. I find myself so busy yet with so many wonderful things surrounding me I often forget to sit still and watch the birds, so this mediation is a reminder for all to sit and appreciate our incredible world.
